What organizations are you affiliated with? Discovery Organics and my role is general manager. I am a member of the Bowen Island Rotary acting as the youth chair. I am an alumni member of SFU’s community economic development course.
What motivated you to join the VFPC? My motivation to join the VFPC was around the challenges to food distribution and security and the major infrastructure changes coming down the pipe in regards false creek flats development.
What are your areas of expertise in the food system? (and/or) What are your skills? Being involved in the fresh food chain from an import, distribution and wholesale level and looking at issues from an industry perspective. Understanding issues that growers face getting their products to market and wholesale distribution.
Tell us one interesting fact about yourself; (and/or) What is one of your proudest food system-related accomplishments? A couple of years ago I decided that I wanted to see what it was like to grow some of my own food so I grew 6 heritage berkshire pigs to weight. I also catch all of the seafood that my family eats. Once a year I invite my whole neighbourhood to my home for a community lamb roast. Typically 100 or so people come and it has become a fantastic event that really shows the power of food bringing people together.
